Welcome Letter

Build the Bridge With Us

Dear Supporters of the Civil Rights Museum,

The International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM) invites you to join us on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 for our Annual Fund-Raising Gala. We will mark the 62nd Anniversary of America’s most recognized lunch counter sit-in protest against segregated eating establishments in the South, and the 12th Anniversary of the opening of the Museum.

Our Gala celebrates national and local activists who have made significant contributions to advancing civil and human rights — while helping communities bridge the generations of social movements. The Gala will be hosted at the Koury Convention Center, Greensboro, NC. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. The program will also stream live for those who are not able to attend in person. This option offers a reduced rate.

We are delighted to honor the celebrated civil rights activist, Prof. and Rev. James Lawson with the Alston-Jones International Civil and Human Rights Award. Vice President Kamala Harris will be presented the Trailblazer Award. Civil Rights attorney Benjamin Crump will be given the Unsung Hero Award. Our Community Service Award will be given to Rabbi Fred Guttman. Retired judge Marilyn Mackel will receive the Sit-In Participant Award. Political commentator and attorney Bakari Sellers will be presented the Keeper of the Flame Award.

Despite the unprecedented global challenges, we will take all appropriate public health precautions in the fulfillment of our mission, and still honor some of our country’s most deserving social justice activists. In light of the current pandemic, we will also have a live streaming option.

Enclosed is information detailing the 2022 honorees and available support levels. Please complete and return the Sponsorship Form, so you may select your table(s) on a first access basis. Online table reservations will also be made available. Please also visit our website at www.sitinmovement.org for additional details or feel free to contact Dillon Tyler at the Museum at 336-274-9199, Ext. 100 or [email protected]

Please contact us today to participate in this very important event. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

John L. Swaine, CEO
